Congratulations to Jeff Carowan - The Jones Cup Champion for 2024.

Never before in royal and ancient history of The Jones Cup has there ever been a repeat champion. Jeff Carowan defied the odds and the grabbed the lead during round 1 and held on for an historic victory. Jeff was unreal in round 2, ripping off 10 pars on a difficult day of cart path only on the True Blue course. In the final round, again cart path only challenged the champ; however with steady play Jeff gave up only 1 point to the field. That secured the Sweet Repeat victory and his place in history of The Jones Cup.

Round 1 Summary

The first round of the 13th playing of The Jones Cup was played at Tournament Players Club of Myrtle Beach.

Top Performers:
Efren Delaluz scored 84 and achieved 48 points in Round 1, showcasing a strong start. Michael Vogt scored 92 and gained 39 points in the round, closely following Efren.

Team Dynamics:
Players like Jeremy Medley and David Bender achieved net positive adjustments, contributing to team totals. Conversely, negative adjustments from players like Rich Crim potentially hurt their team scores.

Round 2 Summary

The 2nd round was played at the famous True Blue course. Designed by Mavrick Mike Stranz, it opened in 1998 to great reviews. However, this day the course was "cart path only" due to overseeding. This made the going tough, especially for defending champion Jeff Carawon. Jeff had his 2nd hip replacement during the summer and struggled to walk the course.

Shirt Off His Back Award

This year's award was a dual award presented to Jeremy Medley and Dan Vines. Both are all around good guys and they look a lot alike. The players were awarded different colored hats so we can tell them apart.

Shank'O'potomas

Rich Crim took a might swing during the final round. On the par 4 18th at Caledonia, Crim thought he was 130 yards, over water, from the front of the green. His "mighty" swing caught a very small piece of the ball sending it a cool 5 yards. Undaunted and using the same club, Crim swung again. This time the swing hit an even smaller piece of the ball and move another 3 yards. His 3rd swing, with the same club, was true and the ball carried the water and came rest a meer 15 ft. from the hole. Clearly, the club selection and distance to the green, was all wrong to start.

Hero Shot!

The legendary Barry Markland, of the Markland and Markland Co., Inc., used his bands of steel during the final round of the competition. This time Barry faced an awkward putt of some 60 feet. The twisting, curling, double breaker made the bands loosen a little. With deft touch and A LOT OF LUCK, player Markland let the putter swing with ease. The ball rolled true, taking contours in stride and fell into the cup! Barry later admitted, this was only putt he made during the 3 rounds of The Jones Cup for 2024
